August 2014

I started my month with a girls' trip to Birmingham, AL.
We got to spend a weekend outlet shopping, dining, and hanging out while our hubbies stayed home with the kids. It was amazing not to be on a schedule and spend time with these good friends.

We happened upon this gem.
His name is Vulcan and is the largest cast iron statue in the world. He is the city symbol for Birmingham reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry.

We decided to figure out what all the hype was about and took the tour.

We were surprised at this beautiful view of downtown once we got to the top of the statue.

The hubbies took good care of the kids while we were gone
(No ER visits or anything...that we know of)

They always enjoy time together.

Perfect way to contain the little ones
It's like a pack-n-play but just bigger...and bouncy : )

"All Aboard!"
Benjamin loves riding the train at the zoo.
He says "choo choo" every time we drive under a train bridge.

Enjoying the last days of summer at the splash park

9 Months and loving to stand up

Eating big girl food:
Her favorites are bananas, avocado, apples, English peas and black beans

Hannah waves "hi" and "bye" and is saying "mama" and "dada"

Zoo day with Nana and Pops

Big boy haircut

Watching the "big tractors" cut down a neighbor's tree

Special Saturday morning treat

Benjamin rides his tricycle around the house every day.  He loves to put toys in the back hatch. He even put a gallon of milk on the back to bring it into the dining room for a refill since it was too heavy to carry. We were impressed with his problem-solving skills. Maybe he will be an engineer one day like his daddy (and Grandy).

One of Benjamin's favorite "toys" this month has been his tape measure.

Speaking of measuring...it was time for new shoes.
I couldn't believe that Benjamin's foot has grown so much in just a few months!
He was wearing size 8 and now he is in 9.5!

Second corn, lettuce, and green beans. Broccoli, tomatoes, okra, and peppers still in progress.

Part of our carrot harvest
**Anyone have any good carrot recipes??**

Frank worked hard to finish the garage ceiling so that we could get the door installed

That is the face of sheer determination and hard work.
(I finally put down the camera and helped)

Finishing touches on the ceiling

All 3 doors are up! The garage door was the original door from the guest house but it will be cleaned up and painted soon. Next month our goal is to finish the exterior.

As we continue to find ways to save money, I made yogurt from just a gallon of milk and a starter. It's really not difficult...just a process of heating up and cooling down milk to specific temperatures. Here is the link I used: How to make your own yogurt

Finished product.
Just added some fresh strawberries and granola for breakfast

Hannah's Baby Dedication at Bellevue
My mom sewed this sweet dress for her special night

All 3 babies (Colton, Corrie Ann, Hannah) were dedicated together

Nana and Pops

Love!

Our 4-Runner kicked the bucket this month (unexpectedly). We had planned on upgrading our car in the next couple of years...not couple of days. Although it was not our timing the Lord was faithful to provide.

Frank drove to Atlanta to pick up our new (used) Sequoia.
It's exactly what we wanted and we got a great deal.

Benjamin's 2nd favorite "toy" this month has been a disposable camera that I had kept in my 4-Runner glove box.

Can't wait to get this film developed and see life from his point of view : )
