Detour Ahead

Have you ever planned on your day going smoothly like this...

But it ended up looking more like this?!
Well…that's how I would describe my whole month

This was the beautiful Outer Banks which I had planned on seeing...

But this ended up being my view.
For those of you not familiar with these socks they were a complimentary gift from the Methodist ER
I won't go into details here, but I had injury on the job.
What didn't seem like a big deal in the moment turned into a month of pain, doctors, and tests.

Needless to say, May did not turn out the way I expected but the Lord has been gracious and has provided at each turn in the road. I have had an abundant outpouring of love from my amazing friends, family, and co-workers. I am deeply thankful for all those who stepped in to help with childcare, meals, errands, cleaning, and worked Saturdays for me while I was unable to fill my role as a wife, homemaker, mother, and OT.

Frank has been so gracious by picking up the slack.
He has been working hard all day and then coming home to take care of me and the kids!

My mom drove 500 miles to come to my rescue and help out around the house and take care of the kids. It just happened to be over Mother's Day…
Even when you're all grown up you still need your mama!

Frank's parents also were a huge help with the kids.

Our neighbor's nannie, Katie, has been a God-send!
She took Benjamin on fun outings several mornings for me to get all his energy out while I stayed at home to rest.

Painting with cars - Genius
(Three of Benjamin's favorite things: Outside, cars, and paint)

Emily is such a sweet friend who came and did some of my housework for me and even helped me grocery shop.
(I was on a 2 lb lifting restriction at the time)
Who knew that a gallon of milk is 8 lbs?!

I am currently on "light duty" with lifting restrictions at work.
Which means I am performing seemingly menial paperwork tasks.
On my way into work one morning I saw this bumper sticker.
"Bloom Where You Are Planted"
God spoke to my heart at that moment. He reminded me that despite my circumstances He had me EXACTLY where He wanted me for this time and that I needed to be faithful even in the little things.

Even though I was sad (understatement of the year) that we missed out on our annual family beach trip I was determined to get some sand, water, and sun!

Lazy River at the Kroc

Picnic lunch in the front yard

Even got a sweet treat with some close friends.

In other news:
Benjamin has LOVED watching our garden grow!

Beginning of May

End of May

Harvesting the first lettuce

We get a large bowl full each week.
It is the most delicious salad I have ever had!

Big Truck Friday was taken to a whole new level

Frank took our back yard from looking like this...

...to this in just one day!

Sod is finished and in June we will be able to start the landscaping and patio area that is currently a mud pit. So excited to have a back yard that we can enjoy!

Benjamin enjoyed watching Frank load the dump truck

He wanted to do the same thing with his play-doh

Frank said "I've never been an impulse buyer until I had a kid."
We were excited to find "Benjamin size" yard tools

He asks to play with them almost every day
Might need to make him a "dirt box" rather than a sand box in the back yard

Frank busting up concrete to make room for the new fence

Again…Built in just one day.
I'm always amazed but never surprised : )

Happy 1/2 birthday Hannah!

"And...

"...I'm done!"

Happy 1/2 Birthday Benjamin!

Always on the move

Benjamin seems to be left footed when kicking which is apparently good for soccer.

He has also improved on his catching skills!

Hanging out with her friend Corrie at the park

Yes, they held hands all the way from the playground to the car.
Too cute!

Frank's Birthday is May 31st.
This was Benjamin's "Happy Birthday Dad" pic in 2012
Only 6 months old

2013
He was less than thrilled that his Dad was turning 30

A lot of growing up has happened in the past year!
Happy Birthday to my hard working, fun loving, devoted husband, and family man who has shown me so much grace this month! I love you.

"See y'all later"
